Exploratory Course Program
About The Jefferson Middle School faculty and staff are excited to announce our first Exploratory Course Program. This program will enable students to discover their particular abilities, talents, and preferences. Through the development of student-centered activities offered by our middle level educators, our exploratory program is designed to acquaint our students with enriching, healthy leisure-time pursuits, such as lifetime physical activities, involvement with the arts, and community service. According to research from the National Middle School Association, “Exploration, in fact, is the aspect of a successful middle school’s curriculum that most directly and fully reflects the nature and needs of young adolescents” (This We Believe, 2003).
The Exploratory Course Program will take place on Wednesday, November 26th, from 1:30 through 2:58 p.m. Students will choose their exploratory course in school during a designated homeroom, with 8th graders scheduling first. Due to exploratory course size limitations, students will prioritize their top three choices, and we will do our best to accommodate those choices.
